R has been outgrowing his trike, and he's been wanting to ride big brothers bicycle. So, Sunday dad takes the boys to Toys R Us. There on the floor is a green bicycle that R hops on and will not get off. He rides it to the register and the bike is purchased. What else are you going to do? It's the bike he wants, and dad tells me he will not get off of it. Oh, and it's not just any bike. It's a Tony Hawk bike complete with trick foot rests on the front wheel. Like a 3 year old will be doing tricks. Maybe Tony Hawk's three year old. So, Dad takes the boys out to Veteran's park so they can ride their bikes. And having so much fun (I'll have to the pix off my phone and then post them).
Later Sunday evening, as we are grilling hamburgers, L asks Dad if we can take off the training wheels. So Dad removes the training wheels as well as the pedals. We've seen bikes in Bicycling magazine without pedals. This allows the kids to practice balancing without something getting in the way. Dad and Greg practice the balancing act while riding the bike down the hill in our backyard. Not the big hill from the door to the trampoline, but the slight in the back from the swing set to the trampoline. L picks it up rather quick and the pedals go back on. We go out to the front yard after eating dinner and L starts riding in the street - WITHOUT TRAINING WHEELS!!!
Meanwhile - R is just happily pedaling along at his own slow-ish pace and having a blast. So look for us this summer at J.T. park riding around on the parking lot in the back. Our list of summer acitivities has grown to two: swimming and riding bikes.

That's awesome! I still can't get Zack to pedal the bikes, even though he knows how.
