It was fairly cold and gloomy today, and I dressed the boys in shorts and t-shirts, but luckily I had sweatshirts in the car. So we went to the gym, my normal Monday morning routine, and ran a few errands, then we were just lazing around the house. R was sitting with me in daddy's chair and I was asking him if he needed this or that or a few other things, and just looks at me and says, "I fine, Mommy." How does a 2 yo know his own disposition?
Okay, so we met daddy at Moe's for dinner and L announces that he can do something, can't remember what it was. Daddy then comments, "I'm glad your genetic make-up will allow you to do that." To which L responds, "Boys don't wear make-up! Wouldn't that be silly if boys wear make-up? Mommy, what's make-up?" Too cute.

All in a Day
I have R to myself Wednesday mornings, and we stay fairly busy, but today we just lazed around the house. I was too upset to do much else. I'm trying a new discipline technique with L called Love & Logic. It's amazing stuff and I have to teach myself a lot first. After getting the boys dressed, it was time to make a school lunch for L. No sooner than I got downstairs, R comes down screaming his head off (some of it is drama, some of it is not). While comforting him, I find out that L hit him. What else is new? Time to move into action with the new discipline technique. "L since I spent all my time comforting your brother after you hit him, I now do not have time to make your lunch, therefore, you will not have a lunch at school today." It was fairly effective as his temperment changed quickly, and we were able to get shoes on and out the door.
At school, I informed his teacher of our new ways and explained that he would not be eating lunch today....I was hoping for a buy in, but instead I got, "that's going to disrupt my class b/c the other students will want to share their lunch with him," blah, blah, blah. That did not set real well with me, and all I could say was, "what time do I pick him up? " And off I went, crying big pitiful tears all the way home and for an hour afterwards. I'm afraid now that dealing with teachers will be this way all through his school career - at least from my perspective. Discipline should start at home and should be supported wherever the child goes. I don't recover well from disappointment; Entitlement issues, I suppose.
However, the boys (being the brothers they are) had a great time this afternoon. They painted in the driveway, made a mess of it, but it's still cute. Then chased around the front yard and had a mulch throwing party; and generally showed off for the ladies that came over from next door to chat for a bit. Tonight, after dinner, instead of chasing and pushing each other around the house, the settled in the "green room" and read books to each other and alone. Such a peaceful moment right before bed. Sure do wish we could have many more peaceful moments like that.

Here we goooooooooooh!!!
So here I am, officially a blogger. I'm only doing this b/c MySpace is not for me. Hopefully I can muddle through this better. I'm the proud mommy of two great boys, and wife to a super, supportive and fun man of 11 years. My neighbor refers to the eldest of my boys as "my main man", and the youngest as "peaches" b/c of his baby peach fuzz on his head. But lately she's is calling them Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn - quite appropriate, really.
Earlier this week, while my husband was out of town, I took the boys out to eat and then to stop at Pier One for a quick minute. On the short drive between the two, L, out of blue (which is where most 4 year old comments seem to come) states he needs to get lots of sleep or he'll go crazy and start tearing up the town! Oh my, I laughed so hard, and assured him that he would get lots of sleep that night as we simply can't have a 4 year old tearing up the town! Look for more of these comments in the near future. He knows "a lot of everything."
